[TDSD] Revival

Word hasn't likely gotten around much yet, unless you've run into Requx, [TDSD]'s newest member. Yeah, [TDSD] is gonna get back on it's feet. Clan recruitment has already started, the new blog was finished a while ago, and a server is now in the works. Head on over to http://tdsd-hq.blogspot.com for all things related to [TDSD] in the future! Though first things last; please give a warm welcome to [TDSD]Requx when you see him. So far he's proven to be a great member of the team and I really hope he sticks around while we get sorted out. A new Hotmail / MSN / WinLive / Skype account will be created soon, to keep better communication with the community, and for anyone that might wanna help out in the future. Shit'll get done soon, follow this blog or the TDSD blog. Any important updates will be shared on both.

Modeling Projects - Terminated!

Oh yay! I know you guys have heard this one before.

As a follow up on my previous post, which I told you all about my AE86 Project, and Map Mod, I am sad to say that they have been...terminated.

No. It's not the usual reason; which is where I lose interest or motivation and scrap it. This time around, it's a technical problem.

To be able to efficiently work on the projects, I was swapping from Laptop to Desktop each day to get some work done. I hadn't had a Flash / Stick drive, which would've been preferred, so instead I used one of my DVD's laying around. Well for whatever reason it is, with no misclicks or accidental disc handling involved, the disc has become corrupt, and unreadable. No recovery program will save it.

So, unfortunately, this is yet another project laid to waste. Honestly I'm not sure what caused the corruption; the disc was in a hardcover case, was never scratched or mishandled. Plopped it out of my laptop and into the Desktop, next thing I know it won't read.

Well, shet happens I guess. It wasn't too bad working on these projects, more so the map, so I may pick it up and try again with a new layout; might skimp on quality though, I really did put a lot of effort into that map, not pleased to see it gone.

Expect some updates on my new map project soon. Daily Backups.

GTA Update

In regards to the last post; this is simply an update, reassuring you that the projects are still being worked on!

The car mod:
-Before I had stopped working on this car the first time, I had finished the exterior shell + bumpers; though, the bad part about the work that had already been done, was that it had been done almost a year ago, while I had no internet access, to keep myself occupied.

For references, I had been using pictures and model files of other editions already created for GTA which I'd collected over the years. Now, with internet access and real references, it's clear just how inaccurate the previously created models have been :D

So the roof was cut off, the bumpers were removed, half of the rear end was also deleted, and that's where I re-started. So far the rear, and bumpers have been fixed. The roof shouldn't be a hassle, and I likely won't spend too much time on the interior.

--

Map Mod:
-All modeling has been finished, though texturing will be slow. My laptop doesn't seem to support the texture service in Zmodeler, and thus I can only have the last 1 or 2 hours of each day to work on texturing, at the desktop.

Collision work has already been done and tested; and once texturing is complete, a few bonus features will be thrown in before release.

Regarding GTA | SAMP

So I've had my fair share of a break from playing on SA, the game which never gets old, and never seems to die off. This, entitles me to as many returns to actively playing it as imaginable.

I've been back online SAMP for a few weeks, and Sarah returned last week; which I'm hoping she'll stick around or at least just pop on every few days; though it's been seeming a little more dull than usual. I have only myself to blame for that; as most of you know I've started well over a million projects for SA including maps, cars and servers, and have only ever managed to finish and release very few.

I have been getting consistently more motivated over the last year, actually finishing projects I've had in the works; and so far I've been able to keep steady work on a few for SA.

So far, within the next week or 2 I should have a new map mod released on GTAInside; nothing extraordinary  and not very big either, but it's something. I plan to include some new cool ideas I don't think have ever been done correctly before, and make it fairly well detailed. This will also be a 'Part 1' of hopefully many, I have placed the map in a sound location that will allow easy modification to add more on later, and spice up the old default SA a bit.

Also in the works is another car mod, no promises on this yet, though it was one of my older unfinished projects that's being revamped. Hopefully when finished, it will follow in fashion of some of SA's older car mods that were fully tuneable.

And on the last note; Over this last year, 2 attempts have been made at creating a new server script, both unfinished, though they proved to be a good learning curve. At this time, I have began re-hosting the SDU script from 2011, and will likely begin work on slowly upgrading the now-old script after I have released the map mod.

If you want a bit of nostalgia to fill your head, or just want an alternative; 66.183.114.9:7777. Profiles have been reset, although the ban list still carries over.  Please enjoy the server, make recommendations with the old /suggest command over the next week, and I'll see what I can do later!

Thank you,

GTA General + New Project

Well, there comes a time about once every year, that you get the thumbs up from several old people stating they are planing on returning to the GTA community. It's almost a cliche.

Within the last few days I've gotten messages from some older drifters about returning, at least for a while anyway; some even being extremely old drifters.  You could officially label GTA, and more specifically GTA: San Andreas, as a timeless classic. Maybe there really will be a reason to restart SDU for the third time..

Anyway, if anyone has played Max Payne 3 yet, you may notice that aside from the extremely large size of the game (30gb), it performs extremely well even on most average-grade PC's. This is a hopeful indication that in the upcoming GTA Title, which is also quoted to have the 'largest explorable landscape' yet featured in a GTA game; that it will also have a chance at running smoothly, unlike it's predecessor GTA IV, which could barely achieve 40fps on high end PC's. Either way, V promises the return of airplanes and countryside, which in it's own is good enough for me.

Introducing my latest project..alongside another vehicle also made by the same brand; anyone know what car in the picture is? Hint: LeMans.

Using Handling Lines in SA-MP 0.3d (Revised)

You know those days when you feel like a complete dumbass? This is definitely one of those days.

Before making my previous tutorial with the same post title, I had struggled with the 'Click-Freeze' bug which almost everyone else has encountered as well. In the tutorial I included some things I thought might fix it...but I overlooked one big important detail, and pretty much ruined the entire post.

When trying to fix the bug myself, I reinstalled SAMP and Sobeit several times trying to figure out, including different versions of both programs; however when I actually did fix it, I had been screwing around so much that I completely forgot what I did to fix it.  Anyway the gist of this entire post is that the solution comes with the different versions of SA-MP..

So here it is, the revised and guarenteed-to-work tutorial!:

Step 1:
Download and install the latest version of the Mod_Sobeit cheat client. All new and updated versions of the mod can be found at this web address:
http://code.google.com/p/m0d-s0beit-sa/

Step 2:
Download and install the R1 version of the SA-MP 0.3d client.  You can download this specific version here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/MEAwc4gS/SA-MP_03d_R1.html?
or in the Download section of this blog.

Step 3:
Open your GTA San Andreas directory and open the 'mod_sa.ini' file. This can be accomplished by right clicking on the Windows start button (Win7 = Blue circle on task bar), and clicking 'Open Windows Explorer'. From there, find the folder you installed GTA Into. By default, this will be:
C:\Program Files (xxx)\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas.

Step 4:
Once you've opened the mod_sa.ini file, click 'Edit' on the top taskbar, and click the 'Find' function.  In the find box, copy and paste the following:
patch[] = "Custom handling.cfg (data/handling.two)"

Look for the two 0's found on the right side of that line:
&0 0

Simply change the second 0 to a 1:
&0 1

Before you save the file, use the 'Find' function again and search for the following line:
i_have_edited_the_ini_file =

Make sure that after the = sign, is the word True.
i_have_edited_the_ini_file = true

Now save and close the file.

Step 5:
Open your data file in the GTA Directory (\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas\Data), and find the 'HANDLING.TWO' file. Open this file with notepad, as you would the regular Handling.cfg file, and add all of your custom handling lines to the .two file instead.  When your done, save the file and go enjoy SA-MP with your crazy custom lines!

Switchfoot

First new post in the Music section!

Switchfoot is an alternative / light rock group formed in 1996, who produce a lot of.. 'release' music, you might say. The type of songs you'd find at the end, or at the peak of a deeply emotional movie (which they often are used for). Well, unfortunately for how gay that may sound, those songs of theirs are actually quite catchy, and even though still being produced in the 21st century, its feel is quite like something out of the 90's; which I find rather hard not to enjoy.

Another thing to note, and probably one of the reasons I wasn't turned away from this band, is that even though they may indeed be called a Christian rock group, they preach none of it. Personally I don't have a strong standing with religion, and don't really want to be preached about it while listening to music; fortunately Switchfoot does a good job with leaving the scripts out of the lyrics, but instead focusing on the pictures that we can all paint and enjoy: the message and meaning.

So here's a few good ones from Switchfoot, be sure to check them out if your into the light rock genre.

Music & Automotives

Hey, I've been debating on removing the current navigation bar ^ and the quick links that are on it, to replace them with much more generalized ones. 2 new ones that I'm thinking of including would be Music & Entertainment, and Automotives.

Music & Entertainment: -One of my most time consuming pastimes is browsing the web and Youtube for rare, underrated, or simply awesome music. Whether it be Hard, Oldschool, Newschool Rap & Hiphop, Light rock or Punk rock even Pop, the genre doesn't really matter; what matters is that it's easy to please the ears, or does major lyrical justice. I have quite a large music collection and an expanding list on the web, so I may be more inclined to locating it all hear and creating a sort of..small-time music headquarters for those that share similar taste.

Automotives: -This is something that I will soon find myself getting back into. Being an addict to all things drifting, and a constant observer of Rally, naturally the point will come when I start wasting my money on figuring all this stuff out in the field; However, my biggest twist to this is that aside from the bright future and high paying jobs that are promised to accompany several years in school, I have no intention to go. Any and all things Automotive are much like anything else I've really got into, I prefer to mingle around and figure as much as I can out on my own. So in months to come when I'm settled down and have started bringing income again, I will probably be tearing my car apart and getting it back in running order. Anything useful that I would learn from experience or online would be shared here, for anyone else following a similar path to make use of.

Basically posting all of this crap on here would make a good Journal / Notebook which everyone could see, debate, comment on etc, and changing the Navbar would of course separate the goods from the crap.

Thoughts? Ponder them while listening to this Ambient HipHop beat,

Drift Competitions - 2012

Hey! It's that time of the year again when the drift competitions start up. Even this post is a little too late for Round 1 action.

Round 1's of Formula-D, D1GP and Drift Muscle have already passed. This is just a reminder to stay tuned on all channels and keep watching for new videos!

Formula-D has a little more to speak about though, as it's the only big North American competition which I'm used to seeing. So far this year in Round 1 the drifting has been very..sketchy. Aside from Justin Pawlak, Daigo Saito and Daijiro Yoshihara dominating the comeptition, the rest of the pack have been struggling not only in Open Practice, but the battles themselves. Other than a good few, most of the battles were won or lost by accident or spinout. My personal favorite was the battle between Dai and Dai in the Final 4 battles, where they were both extremely tight nit, but Daijiro got the edge and won. Gotta give props to Daigo Saito though, for first going to Indonesia and winning last year, and now coming to the US with a new car and a beast of an engine (2JZ @ 1200hp, similar to what you would find in an 8 second Supra), and still coming in third in the first round. He will definitely put out some more good battles in the following rounds, as I'm hoping so will some of the amateurs who showed off some major talent in Practice and in competition, but unfortunately all ended up with busted fenders.

Stay tuned to Formula-D on the Justin.TV DriftStream: http://www.justin.tv/driftstream

--
D1GP has been it's usual self, a lot of more shiny cars doing extremely clean twin drifting and putting on one hell of a show. Can't pick on any one driver as I haven't payed as much attention to it this year, but it's always a nice sight to see some of the classic stable cars of the D1GP still going at it almost completely unchanged; like the Team Orange Subaru's, Tezuka and Nomukens R34's. D1GP still really sets the level when it comes to professional drifting, amazing stuff.
--
Drift Muscle is obviously a great addition in the drifting world. With several levels of competition, there's a little something for everyone. Though video is much harder to come by, what you actually do get to see is a nice change from regular competitions, being much more rugged and feeling a lot more 'real' you could say. The only English titled video I've been able to see so far has been that of the 'challenge' class, with about 15 cars competing and as I've said, some pretty sketchy drifting, but still a lot of fun to watch.

So just remember to check up on or tune into these drift competitions, post a comment on what you think, who your routing for or w/e!, and obviously most importantly, just enjoy drifting.

8 Years Later - GTA:SA

Ever since I picked up the first copy in 2004, GTA:San Andreas has been nothing but pure entertainment. Come 2006, with the first release of SA-MP, the game took a refreshing backtrack, giving almost the same amount of enjoyment as when it appeared the shelves. Playing with friends had never been better.

Although still missing the warm vibrant environment of Vice City, San Andreas came to grow a bit on us all...and it still is! As in January of this year, SA-MP reached it's highest ever online player count, with 40,000 users online at the same time. Even though most of anyone that was drifting around 2007 or earlier is gone, the games community still seems to expand. Just makes me wonder how much longer will this last? Obviously GTA:IV didn't work as well as planned, so lets hope V sparks off something that will burn as long as SA.

(probably the gayest sounding post on this blog)

Yacht upload suspended.

Just a notice; I've delayed the release of the yacht mod for a small while longer.

Reasons:
-There are still some issues that should be given more trial & error for fixing or polishing.
-The boat still lacks detail. After searching the web for pictures of similar yachts, I've found quite a few important things that are missing (I hadn't used any references for this model, so I missed some stuff).
-A few areas of the boat need to be reshaped. This is again due to newly referenced realistic details :P
-Been a bit busier than usual.

Soundgarden - Live to Rise

Here's the awaited, full version of Soundgardens new single "Live to Rise", which will be heard in the upcoming 'Avengers' movie.

What do you think? Still carries a good Soundgarden sound so far as I can hear.

Lyrics:

What if all you understand,
Could fit into the center of our hand,
Then you found it wasn't you,
Who held the sum of everything you knew,

We're insane but not alone,
You hold on,
And their gone,

Like the sun we will live to rise,
Like the sun we will live and die,
And then ignite again,
Like the sun we will live to rise again,

What if the one thing that I missed,
Was everything I need to pass the test,
And if I fail what happens then,
Can I still count on you as a friend,
We're insane but not alone,
You hold on,
And their gone,

Like the sun we will live to rise,
Like the sun we will live and die,
And then ignite again,
Like the sun we will live to rise again,
(Again x3)

Warm My Face,
Warm Your Face,
Warm My Face,
Warm Your Face,
Warm My Face,
Warm Your Face,

Like the sun we will live to rise,
Like the sun we will live and die,
And then ignite again,

Like the sun we will live to rise,
Like the sun we will live and die,
And then ignite again,
Like the sun we will live to rise again,
Again

Banned on [DGZ], Again.

I know alot of you are already very familiar with the [DGZ] clan and server; most of the feed coming back very negative.

I have my own history with the server:

Some time in either 2007 or 2008 I was browsing the SA-MP Server Advertisements, where I found the original one for DGZ. I joined it, Killa[DGZ] was the only other player online. We drifted for a while, had a talk about handlings which we both respectively agreed would be completely disallowed on his server due to his preferences.

I went back to [DGZ] around a year later, which is where I was first banned for 'Speedhacking', after beating several of the clans drivers in races on an enlarged bigear map. After their ban list was reset, or my account unbanned, I was able to get on for the second time, which is where I was temporarily banned for debating the Pro's and Con's of handling lines; this was my own fault and the ban was fair. I was furthermore kicked or banned a few more times due to the same old Speedhacking reason.

Normally I would not care about an server overruled by administrator abuse, however the only reason it really bothers me is because two both very good, and very friendly drifters whom are both former SDU players have strong ties with the clan, enough to defend it despite the amount of people they heard having similar stories. These two drifters also share my utmost respect in the community for simply always bringing a good game wherever they go.

One of them actually did something I would never have expected, and created an appeal for my name to be respected for my history on SA-MP and old-timers skill while playing on the [DGZ] server.

Obviously I was banned again, failing to yield the reason for this post. This time I can only assume the reason was really 'Disobeying an Administrator', as I refused to enter his / her personal vehicle and drift for them.

Seems like a pretty weak reason right? Well I found it a bit strange that I would be asked twice, under extremely awkward circumstances to drift in a [DGZ] members personal car, something that I can't see them doing very often. The first occasion was with the leader, Killa[DGZ], who offered me the opportunity to drift in his car after spontaneously turning around the insults and replacing them with some rather gratifying flattery. The second occasion was directly before I was banned, when Frog[DGZ] was doing his best to force me into his elegy, for the reason that "if u have uffin too hide ull drive it". He had previously accused me of speedhacking or using handling lines. I did mention that driving another elegy will not prove anything, and that I would gladly accept to driving any of the available elegies parked at the top of Bigear; however he stuck with his desire for me to drive his car and proceeded with the ban.

In the hopes that Killa[DGZ]'s respect was genuine, I would be thankful to be unbanned. Though under the means that I should not be expected to be forced into another players car, as per personal preference.

EDIT: A copy-paste from the recorded chatlog:

Yacht bug report - help?

Heyo.

For anyone interested in the yacht mod, this is a post regarding a few bugs which you can expect to encounter upon release, unless someone out there knows of a way to counter the effects of the GTA3 game engine.

1: View distance

As one of the two most noticeable problems with this boat, using the Far (first) third person view in-game will result in not being able to see any of the furniture of smaller details aboard the boat. Using the medium (second) third person view will result in the same effect, if you pivot your view upwards of 40*. Using the Close (third) third person view will be fine.

Examples:

Far (first):

Near (third):

The second most noticeable bug, is a bug which as far as I know, is unavoidable. I haven't put alot of time into figuring out vehicle reflections like most drifters did when first trying to figure out how to make their riced out elegies look fancy, etc etc :P! Anyway the bug is relative to the use of Specular highlighting, which is used on all default vehicles in SA in order to better define and display the curves or details of the vehicle. When pointing your view at a South-West direction, and tilting it to face downward at about 40-60*, the boat will become extremely bright and reflective.

Examples:

Regular:

South-West:

So far I see no fix for the second issue. Adding addictive reflections will not work, as it simply glides a texture above the pre-existing one, not bringing out any lighting effect.

The first bug could be fixed by simply making a copy of the boats regular model and using it for the LOD aswell; however this would cause the file size to nearly double. I may include this as an option in the final download.

As part of the first bug, the view of the vehicle should actually be much closer than it is. Normally this is due to the collision file; however on boats, and in particular the Marquis, the handling line actually has a value for more / less view distance. This will easily be fixed for the final release in a custom handling line, however note that unless you have a program allowing you to run a handling.two on SAMP, you will be forced to use the closest view only.

Boat handling is exactly like the view distance (related to handling), which is rather..extremely unrealistic with the stock marquis line, and again will require a handling.two to work well.

That's all. If anyone has some recommendations related to the bugs, please leave a comment on this post! Thanks

Modeling Projects

A few of you have been interested in seeing what I've been up to in terms of 3d Modeling, so here's 2 pics of 2 of my current projects:

I hope you can all figure out what this one is..

It's the famous AE86. I am making my own model of the vehicle, starting with all of the original, non-aftermarket bits and pieces, to later release the vehicle with a small twist which I think everyone will be able to enjoy :p

Secondly:

This is a large scale yacht modification. I had made a yacht mod a few years ago (my first boat mod), but it turned out rather badly and had many many bugs. This time around I've fixed any and all issues, added a few extra's and polished it up.

This mod should be released very soon as soon as I coax up custom handling settings for it.

Also on the go, but going very slowely...is a joint-project with a member of SA-MP forums going by the name of 'Slayer101', who recently converted Vans123's GTAIV Map conversion for SA into Pawno code for SAMP, recruited me for a large-scale landmass project which has the primary focus of creating large and realistic roadway systems, and country terrain. However..there have been a few conflicts of interest on the direction of the project. I've created a few areas of land, but nothing well enough to yet be presented. This, and the Yacht mod (hopefully the AE86 too) have been my first projects incorporating only my own created textures; so that is taking up lots of time aswell, and slowing production.

That's all for now,

Nice isn't it? :p

From now on I think this blog will not incorporate a chatbox, but instead just make use of the default blogger Comment sections. Chatboxes have never really proved useful for anything nice or even intelligent, so if there is anything someone wants to say, either leave a comment or email me.

Blog Revival + SDU

Heyo.

A lot of people have been asking me to post tutorials and how-to's on several Zmodeler or modification related topics, aswell as general progression or screenshots on my modeling works that I do in the meantime; I do not object to this, and will gladly do so.

So in light of what will hopefully be some revitalized blog activity and interest, it'll first undertake a makeover to start things fresh. Most likely I will end up just using one blog from now on, so no more separate Bullshitting / Modding blogs; I'll just add categories and quicklinks for posts like those.

The shoutcast shoutboxes have been disabled due to abuse of the free system, so I'll have to find another make or possibly try and make my own with html (far hopes); but I've been getting more involved with other areas of computer work as of late. Within the last week I've gone from having no graphic knowledge other than MS Paint, to grounding some skills, tricks and techniques in Paint.net which shares many of its features with Photoshop. Learning some basic HTML for all this web crap..

Currently working on 3 large scale modeling projects which will all be publically released when completed. One of which should be on www.gtainside.com fairly soon. The other.. *spoiler*..will be an alternative solution to the infamous elegay, and a good one.

So thats all for now, start making regular checkups again and make sure to hit up [SDU] when your bored! New IP: 50.99.196.68:7777
